NEW!! 2ND ORCHESTRA
Both live and video auditions are available. A live audition with the conductor is preferred! Only if you have a conflict, or when live audition time slots are no longer available, should video submissions be an option. Please email for video submission request.
Musicians will be assigned to Symphony or Concert Orchestra based on the result of the audition.
New LSYO Policy:
In support of school music programs, members of LSYO are required to participate in at least one large ensemble at their school. Reasonable exemptions will be considered for musician whose academic schedules present unavoidable conflicts with school ensemble participation (i.e. AOS, AET or Monroe courses) The signature of a school academic advisor will be required in any such case. Home-schooled students and students whose schools do not have a relevant ensemble for their instrument, are also exempted.
Each student should prepare approximately five minutes of music, including
1) A piece that demonstrates technical proficiency, and
2) Music that is more expressive, lyrical, etc.
It can either be two different selections, or it could be one piece that includes both elements in different passages. Students working on longer pieces should plan ahead of time which portions they will play (five minutes total).
All student instrumentalists should practice scales regularly. Therefore, each student will be asked to play scales in the audition, but with no specific requirements stipulated ahead of time. We want to hear the scales that you are already practicing with your teacher, and/or on your own. Students should enter the audition prepared to verbally articulate what their normal scale regimen includes, and then we will ask to hear a representative sample.
